Mobile phones and fertility
Oct 11th
We’ve been reading some interesing studies lately regaring mobile cellphones and their affect on fertility. For a number of years now there has been a great deal of concern regarding the levels of radiation emitted by mobile phones, especially when a call is taking place.
With the advent of newer types of mobile phones (smartphones) which can connect to the internet using WIFI and 3G, phones are becoming increasingly more powerful and emitting more radiation than ever before.
While the results of many recent studies are inconclusive, most of them recommend that you keep your mobile phone as far away from your body as possible, even when not even in use. For example, it is better to carry a mobile in a bag than in a pocket for example, where it would be closer to your body. Of great concern is the effect of mobile phones on fertility. Men in particular tend to carry their mobile phone in the front pocket of their trousers – you can only imagine the havoc the radiation is playing with fertility if the phone is carried in this way.
Therefore, How to Conceive a Boy, in line with these recommendations, recommends that you carry your mobile phone as far away from your body (especially the testicles for males) as possible.

Heat and fertility
Sep 25th
One of the easiest ways of improving male fertility and boost your chances of conceiving a boy is to avoid heat! What exactly do we mean by this? Well, heat is the enemy of sperm.. heat damages sperm production and therefore reduces good sperm count and decreases male fertility.
You might wonder where heat comes from. Some good examples are hot baths, hot showers, wearing tight underwear or clothing, and cycling (the friction in the saddle area causes heat in the groin area). Any of these things can dramatically increase the amount of heat in the male groin area and damage the production of sperm.
It’s a little known fact that fighter pilots have to go on long term leave when they are planning a family, as the flight suits they wear cause heat which damages sperm. So it takes time for sperm production to get back to normal.
So if you’re trying to conceive a boy, it’s a good plan to avoid or minimise any activity which can increase heat and damage sperm production. The good news is that sperm production can be brought back to normal levels after around 3 months, meaning that avoiding heat sources for a while will reverse the damage.

Conceiving a boy and dairy products
Sep 19th
We’ve read several articles and posts on websites recently that say you should cut out dairy products while trying to conceive a boy. This is quite a worrying thing to be reading, as dairy products provide a healthy part of a woman’s diet, and cutting out dairy (especially milk) can be detrimental to one’s diet.
To conceive a girl, you should eat foods high in calcium yes, but that doesn’t mean you should go the opposite extreme and cut out dairy products if you’re trying to conceive a boy. Yes, the idea is to eat certain foods to control the level of acidity in the vagina, but going to the extreme and completely cutting out the foods that will help you conceive the other gender of baby can be dangerous to both your general health and can damage your chances of becoming pregnant in the first place.
Remember, although eating the right foods helps, the most important factor in conceiving either a boy or girl is timing intercourse correctly. Don’t do anything that can impact your health and scupper your chances of pregnancy. Remember – conceiving a baby of any sex is better than not conceiving at all because your diet is bad!
