Foods high in potassium include meat and fish, some vegetables (potatoes, tomatoes, spinach), some fruits (bananas, apricots, avocados, oranges, kiwis, prunes), and of course, milk.

Foods high in sodium include some types of meat (bacon, ham, corned beef, pepperoni, and canned meats), some types of fish (sardines, smoked salmon), cheese, and tomato juice.

Increasing your intake of sodium and potassium can be done any time before you plan to conceive, but ideally should be done at least 6 weeks before.
